PLAN YOUR DAY
Check dates & choose your option
For two UNESCO towns in one day, this Bari departure combines return coach travel with Alberobello and Matera. Choose your date, party size and self-guided or guided option; add museum tickets only if they are included in the option you select.
Four steps to a well-planned visit
Four simple steps to your booking.
Choose your route
Decide whether you want Alberobello alone, a day with Matera, or a combination with the coast. Start with your accommodation location: a departure from Polignano may be more practical than travelling back to Bari. Compare the full day’s duration, including transport.
Read the option details
A starting price does not identify every inclusion. For the featured Bari–Matera trip, a live guide and museum tickets depend on the selected option. Read the exact language, meeting point and admission list so you reserve the visit you expect.
Select your date and party
Open the availability calendar, enter everyone in your group and choose the departure and option. Review the final price and cancellation terms on GetYourGuide. Keep the confirmation accessible so you can check the meeting pin and instructions before travel.
Arrive ready to explore
Reach the meeting point before the stated check-in deadline with your voucher, comfortable shoes and water. Bring headphones and mobile internet if your option uses digital guides. At each stop, note where and when to rejoin the coach before walking away.
PICTURE YOUR DAY
From trulli roofs to the Sassi
A typical sequence for the featured Bari–Alberobello–Matera coach trip. Your booked option determines guiding and admissions; the operator can adjust the order and timings.
- Leave Bari together — Meet at your confirmed checkpoint, check in and settle into the coach. The journey moves you from the city into the countryside before the first visit. Keep the day’s instructions and meeting pin handy; this is also the moment to clarify how your chosen guided or self-guided option works.
- Walk among Alberobello’s trulli — The close-set limestone houses and conical roofs are the reason to come. Use your allocated time to explore the streets and notice doorways, roof details and changing views. If you have booked the museum-ticket option, plan that visit around opening times and the coach departure rather than assuming unlimited time.
- Make time for a pause — Meals are not included, so choose when to stop for something to eat within your free time. A sit-down lunch can use a meaningful part of a short visit. Keep a little margin for finding the coach again, especially if you have followed a winding route through the old streets.
- Discover a different stone landscape in Matera — Matera changes the scene from conical roofs to the layered Sassi districts and cave dwellings. Follow your guide if that is the option you booked, or use the visitor material independently. Allow for steps and uneven ground; choose a manageable walk instead of chasing every viewpoint in the time available.
- Return to Bari — Rejoin the group at the agreed place and let the coach handle the journey back. The full excursion is advertised as ten hours, with timing subject to conditions. Keep dinner or onward travel flexible enough to accommodate the realities of a multi-stop day.

A DAY AMONG THE TRULLI
Plan the visit you actually want
Choose the journey before the ticket
An Alberobello day trip starts with a simple choice: do you want time in the trulli town itself, or a wider introduction to southern Italy? A return coach from Bari solves the journey, but it does not automatically provide a guided visit. A local walking tour does the opposite: it supplies the interpretation while leaving transport to you. Making that distinction first is more useful than choosing solely by the lowest advertised price.
Our featured option is Alberobello and Matera by Bus from Bari. It combines Alberobello with Matera over an advertised ten-hour day. The starting option is self-guided, with coach travel and visitor information. Choose a guided option if you want live commentary, and check the ticket option if entering Trullo Sovrano and Casa Grotta matters to you. Those extras should be explicit on your reservation, not inferred from the destination names.
Why Alberobello deserves time on foot
The appeal is in the streets as much as any individual interior. Look at the relationship between the thick white walls and the layered conical roofs, then notice how doorways and lanes fit into the cluster. UNESCO inscribed the trulli in 1996 for their exceptional survival of a dry-stone building tradition. The UNESCO property description is a useful starting point for understanding what you are seeing.
Rione Monti and Aia Piccola provide different settings for a walk. The first has a substantial visitor-facing commercial presence; the second includes lived-in residential streets. Give people space at doorways, avoid treating homes as exhibits and ask before entering a private space. A photograph of a beautiful interior is not evidence that your tour includes access to it.
If you already have a car, accommodation in town or another way to arrive, Alberobello Walking Tour with a Local is a more focused purchase. Its two-hour route includes a local guide and children’s activities, but excludes museum admission and pickup. You can finish the walk and continue at your own pace rather than fitting the rest of your visit around a coach timetable.
From Bari: one town or two?
For a shorter, concentrated visit, Alberobello Bus Excursion from Bari is advertised as six hours overall and describes independent exploration in Alberobello. It includes return coach travel and digital visitor material. The current inclusion list names Trullo Sovrano, although a generic exclusion also mentions admissions; confirm that museum ticket in the selected option rather than assuming every interior is covered.
The featured Matera combination is better suited to seeing two distinct historic landscapes in one day. It is less suitable for someone who wants to linger over every museum or spend a long, unhurried afternoon in either town. Matera adds walking on steps and uneven routes, as well as another transfer. Read our Bari departure guide and Alberobello–Matera comparison before choosing the longer itinerary.
Add the coast instead of Matera
Alberobello, Monopoli and Polignano from Bari combines Alberobello with Monopoli and Polignano a Mare. The attraction is variety: trulli inland, harbour streets in Monopoli and coastal viewpoints in Polignano. That variety comes with three scheduled stops and an advertised eight-to-ten-hour day. It is an overview, so choose it because you want the mix rather than expecting an in-depth visit everywhere.
Read the selected option closely. The listing describes guiding, digital material and free time, and asks travellers to check whether they have booked with or without a guide. “Private bus” in a product title is not a promise of an exclusive trip for your family. Our trulli and coast guide separates the itinerary from that potentially confusing wording.
Staying in Polignano or Monopoli
Starting from the coast can remove an unnecessary journey back to Bari. Alberobello Guided Tour from Polignano includes a return transfer from Polignano and a guided Alberobello walk in English or Italian. Its advertised duration is four hours. The programme may collect passengers in Monopoli en route, but a pickup stop does not turn the booking into a Monopoli sightseeing visit.
For a guided two-town day, compare Matera and Alberobello with Local Guides. Its stated inclusions cover guided visits in Alberobello and Matera and a traditional Casa Grotta ticket. Departure arrangements vary by option, and hotel pickup belongs to the private option. Check the departure you can actually reach, the live guiding language and the group format together; a convenient-looking title is not enough.
Budget for the booking you actually want
The prices on this site are listing-wide starting amounts per person, checked on 22 October 2026 and rounded to whole euros for readability. They are not quotes for every date, language or upgraded option. The booking calendar gives the final total for your party. Our price and inclusion guide explains the extra decisions that can change the comparison.
Keep meals, drinks and any excluded admissions in your budget. For a self-guided trip, have mobile data and headphones available when required by the digital material. Bookings that include a coach still leave you responsible for reaching the departure point and returning to it at each stop.
Make the day comfortable
Wear shoes you can walk in for several hours and carry water. Choose clothing for the forecast, with shade or rain protection as needed. Confirm specific accessibility needs with the operator before reserving: neither transport nor the word private guarantees a step-free visit through historic streets.
Avoid a tight onward connection after a full-day excursion. Traffic and operational changes can affect the return time, and the featured coach cannot wait for late participants at the stops. For help choosing between the formats, use our tour selection guide and one-day planning guide.

Alberobello day trips: your questions answered
Everything you need to know before you book.
Yes. The selected coach excursions include return transport from Bari. Choose a six-hour Alberobello-only visit or a longer itinerary with Matera or the coast. See our Bari departure guide for the differences.
Not necessarily. The featured Alberobello–Matera product offers a self-guided option; live guiding and museum tickets depend on what you select. Compare the actual option inclusions, not just the listing title.
It is a workable organised excursion, advertised as ten hours for the featured Bari departure. It suits an overview of both towns. If you want long museum visits or a slower lunch, choose one destination or visit on separate days. Our combination guide explains the trade-off.
Not by itself. The featured listing uses a coach for a shared excursion. An exclusive vehicle and guide must be explicitly stated in the option you reserve; do not infer exclusivity from the words private bus.
Yes. The local walking tour starts at Piazza Sacramento in Alberobello and lasts about two hours. It includes a local guide but not transport or museum admission. See the walking-tour details.
Yes. A selected four-hour Pugliamare product includes return transport from Polignano and an English or Italian guided walk in Alberobello. A Monopoli stop may collect passengers rather than provide sightseeing time. Read the Polignano departure guide.
Inclusions vary. Meals are excluded from the featured coach trip. Trullo Sovrano and Casa Grotta admission are tied to the ticket option on that listing. The Pugliamare guided combination separately lists Casa Grotta admission. Check your exact product and option.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water and protection suited to the weather. Self-guided digital material can require your own mobile data and headphones. Keep your confirmation and meeting pin accessible, and note the return-to-coach time at every stop.
These visits involve walking, and Matera in particular has steps and uneven stone routes. Ask the operator about your specific mobility needs before booking. A coach transfer or a private option does not by itself guarantee an accessible sightseeing route.
The six selected listings advertise free cancellation up to 24 hours before the activity. Check the deadline and terms displayed for your reservation when booking, then use GetYourGuide or the operator contact on your confirmation for changes.
For an existing reservation, use the operator contact on your booking confirmation.
